Siemens has joined forces with Grid Battery Storage Limited (GBSL) as part of a £11 million partnership.

They will initially work on four projects – the first at Dorking – which will have a total capacity of 22MW and are expected to go live between the summer of 2018 and early 2019.

The firms will offer grid scale storage to industrial energy users, helping them benefit from onsite storage without capital investment and save electricity costs.

GBSL will use Siemens’ SieStorage lithion-ion battery and the projects will be financed by Siemens Financial Services.

The projects are aimed at helping National Grid to better manage the energy system as well as high energy industrial users to increase grid resilience.
