Summary:

Do you have experience as a retail energy Operations Manager? We’re looking for a Commercial and Operations Manager to join a new energy supplier to lead and undertake day-to-day activities and set-up and prepare this business for Controlled Market Entry (CME) to become a licenced gas and electricity supplier in the UK market. There are two phases to this role – set-up and preparation for CME and operation during / after CME. This is a key Senior Management role in the business and will provide the opportunity to make a high impact contribution to the success and direction of the business from day one.  Over time, it is anticipated that the post-holder will establish and lead a small team to support business growth. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with software providers and a range of industry bodies (e.g. metering agents, ELEXON, Gemserv, DNOs etc.) to facilitate entry into and successful exit from CME.
  • During and post-CME (i.e. In live business operation), take the lead on all day-to-day commercial and operational activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of business strategy
  • Agree operational processes with software provider.
  • Lead day-to-day operations of the business from supply point registration through to retail invoicing and cash collection.
  • Manage wholesale and retail positions and associated settlement and reconciliation and industry credit positions.
  • Arrangements in place to meet business / customer needs for metering / meter reading and associated settlement activities.
  • Contribute to pricing methodologies.
  • Implement and operate pricing processes.
  • Get appropriate controls in place to enable end-to-end settlement of both retail and wholesale positions including industry costs and charges.
  • Contribute to business strategy and development activities, including financial aspects.
  • Establishes and maintains a departmental risk register.

Skills and experience:

  • 5 – 10 years’ relevant energy industry experience (exposure to local generation / new supply an advantage).
  • Extensive industry knowledge covering both wholesale and retail processes.
  • Degree or equivalent in a numerate / analytical discipline such as finance, mathematics, economics or science.
  • Leadership and team development skills.
  • Sound understanding of the relationship of process data and accounts.
  • Track record of managing industry relationships.
  • Ability to take a broad view across the business and prioritise using a sound rationale.
  • Customer focused – you are aware of and anticipate what the customer needs.
  • Organiser – you plan your day to ensure that your work is completed on time and to standard.
  • Comfortable in fluid start-up environment.
