Can Ball Corp. slash emissions? They seem to tin-k so

The firm aims to cut its emissions by around 27% by 2030

Tin can manufacturer Ball Corporation has set new sustainable goals and submitted them to the Science Based Targets Initiative for approval.

The international firm has committed to reducing ‘scope one’ and ‘scope two’ emissions by 27%, as well as cutting ‘scope three’ emissions by 25% before 2030.

‘Scope one’ emissions are caused directly by a company’s activities, while ‘scope two’ are those related to purchased energy and ‘scope three’ are created in a company’s value chain.

In Ball Corporation’s case, these emissions are likely to include those created from mining metals, processing materials into containers for canned goods, transporting these to supermarkets and a range of other areas.

The firm says its targets are consistent with the level of decarbonisation required to limit global warming to less than 2°C compared to pre-industrial temperatures.
