Energy company SSE has issued its second green bond totalling €650 million (£588m).

It follows the Big Six supplier’s previous bond issuance in August last year and is said to make the company the largest issuer of green bonds in the UK corporate sector.

It offers a rate of 1.375%, will be swapped to Sterling and mature in September 2025.

The issuance is part of SSE’s move to support the transition towards a low carbon future through investment in renewable energy and develop a market for environmentally-friendly technologies.

Finance Director Gregor Alexander said: “In line with our innovative approach to financing investment and as a major investor in the UK and Ireland’s renewable energy infrastructure, we are pleased that this second green bond continues to show SSE’s focus on sustainability and responsibility principles.

“This funding is consistent with our commitment to maintain a strong balance sheet and strong market rating and has been secured at very attractive pricing.”
