India to provide subsidies for all types of EVs

The country’s government plans to invest the equivalent of £600m over a five-year period

India has announced it is to provide subsidies for all types of electric vehicles (EVs).

The second phase of its Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme has now been finalised.

It will provide subsidy support for all types of EVs, including two, three and four-wheelers, with an investment of about Rs5,500 crore (£600m) over a five-year period.

The scheme aims to promote clean vehicles, incentivise their adoption and help reduce air pollution across the country.

The government has said it will also offer incentives to transport authorities to switch to hybrid and electric buses.
