Solar panels are to be installed at Zambia’s Chitambo Hospital, where Dr David Livingstone’s heart was buried after he died in his search for the source of the Nile.

The Scottish Government has worked in partnership with local businesses to install the panels, with local staff being trained to maintain them – it provided funding of around £50,000 to leverage local investments.

The renewable energy source at the hospital will ensure a consistent energy supply, vital for keeping equipment powered up and storing essential medicines.

“It’s about how collaboration and funding from Scotland leveraged the might of Zambian business, international charities and the local community.”
