We are independent, fair and engaging and listen to all voices across the sector. We are leaders in online TV for the energy sector and we bring you interviews and interesting filmed stories from across the UK and abroad.
We won the BEST JOURNALISM prize at the 2012 Scottish Green Energy Awards and were nominated for BEST SPECIALIST NEWS SITE at the 2014 Online Media Awards.
Energy is a complex business but we make it simple. Our aim is to explain the business of energy to everyone from the CEO of a multi-national corporation to the person who changes the light bulbs in your office. If you deal in the business of energy we communicate the issues that matter to you. Our aim is to make energy easy.
We not only provide news but run a very successful events division running an awards programme and annual conference, as well as regular small scale events and seminars.
Our team is dedicated to the highest levels of accuracy, quality and creativity in all we do;
Editor and co-founder. Sumit has more than two decades in journalism, firstly with National newspapers and then in broadcasting. He joined the BBC in 1993 as a reporter and presenter and has worked on all major news outlets including Breakfast, One and Six O’Clock News, 5Live, BBC News channel, BBC Three and World Service. He presented the BBC One current affairs strand Inside Out for five years and also travelled the world with Holiday. After leaving the BBC to follow a freelance career he worked for SKY and ITN and the Travel Channel. He is the Editor of Energy Live News and runs all matters editorial as well as all production. Sumit has been silly enough to get caught in a blizzard in the north pole, cycle to Paris, swim with sharks and even more ridiculously continues to support Leyton Orient.
Geoff is ELN’s Commercial Director and co-founder. He has had a successful 25 year career in strategic selling working for big brands and corporations. Geoff has worked at all levels of corporate sales and previously set up a successful software company. He is in charge of commercial strategy and finance as well as coming up with the idea of ELN in the first place. Known widely in the industry in a very short space of time he certainly gets noticed. A man of real substance he has been a devoted Arsenal season ticket holder ever since they started winning things and is also an even bigger fan of cakes.
Vicky is our Chief Reporter. She made her mark very quickly at ELN and has got to know the industry well and is a popular face in the sector now. Vicky studied English Literature and Language at Leeds University, where she was on the Guardian Student Newspaper of the Year-winning editorial team at Leeds Student, also completing her MA in Writing for Performance and Publication. She was Yorkshire Editor for Whatsonstage.com and still has a keen interest in theatre and for her sins often reviews plays that should not have seen the light of day. She also has an amazing penchant for singing show tunes in the office.
Chief VT and Graphics Editor. Part of the launch team for ELN, Simon graduated from Staffordshire University with a First Class Degree in film Production Technology. Simon works on all aspects of production for ELN including filming, graphics and design. He has created the look and feel of ELN and is at the forefront of thinking up new innovative ways for us to make an impact. Not surprisingly Simon has a passion for film making and spends a large amount of his free time pretending to be Marvel cartoon characters – or as he calls it – working on short film projects, particularly movie parodies. In fact he is so good at dressing up his work has been selected for several awards.
Business Development Manager. Christan joined ELN in 2012 with a degree in Business and a very successful career in music production and recording, he decided to join the ELN team looking for a different direction creatively. He has a good grasp of all production issues including filming and editing, so he really knows his stuff when it comes to selling our services commercially. Christan is the master of the soft touch and seems to win clients without the hard sell. He’s the only one of the crew who has chilled with Snoop Dog in LA and continues to produce music in his spare time. He’s also stopped regularly in the streets by people who think he starred in the Shawshank Redemption…he didn’t.
Reporter. Pri joined ELN from Middlesex University with a post graduate degree in Journalism and Media. She’s a reporter and is rapidly proving herself as a good one with a keen drive to learn. She’s keen to travel and has taken the ELN cameras to Norway and Moscow, perhaps that travel bug comes from her roots back in Nepal. Despite growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas she complains a lot about the cold and has no desire to climb mountains, though is happy to drink Newcastle Brown Ale having spent some time masquerading as a Geordie.
Camera and Graphics. Ash joined ELN as an apprentice in 2013. His previous incarnation had been as a ‘banker of sorts’ in Southend but the lure of a change of career in the media brought him to ELN towers. He completed an apprenticeship in Creative Media and now is a permanent member of the team who is quickly mastering the nuances of filming on location and in studio. In his spare time he’s a super dooper kiteboarder which bascially means he ties a skateboard to a sail and tries to regularly put his life in danger – luckily ELN has insurance.
Camera and Graphics. Amber joined us in 2013 after completing a degree in Film Production also from Staffordshire. Amber is one of the few camerawomen out there and doesn’t shirk from getting into press scrums. Her talent in graphics has helped ELN up its game when it comes to production. She’s a Hertfordshire lass who spends most of her spare time trying to control her chocolate Labrador or practicing ‘Riverdance’ routines infront of the mirror. We’ve told her to have a go at BGT but she refuses!
Market Research. Richard joined us in 2014 and is involved in market research and sales development for ELN. He is a seasoned sales and marketing professional who has had a 20 year career in the field working particularly in the IT markets. Richard has just recently adopted a young lad and is learning being a dad means lots of trips to the cinema, cooking spag bol and tying shoelaces!
Operations. George is our latest recruit. Essex through and through, he joined us in 2014 as a business apprentice but has spent most of his time entertaining the ELN team with a wide-boy comedy routine. When he’s not popping out for a shifty fag or DJing in dodgy clubs in the land of TOWIE, he works on all matters operational for ELN including logistics and administration. And yes, he wears white trainers with white socks!
We do sometimes use freelancers and can offer graduates internship placements so anyone interested in filming, editing or reporting for ELN should get in touch by the address below or send a CV, covering letter and short showreel to [email protected]
