Ofgem has warned energy suppliers to comply with new prepayment meter rules or face consequences, as EDF, Octopus and ScottishPower get approval to resume involuntary installations
The newly updated Code of Practice requires suppliers to make at least ten attempts to contact customers and carry out a site welfare visit before installing a PPM
Citizens Advice and Ofgem have established a phone line for energy customers with prepayment meters to share their experiences
The move is estimated to save around £45 a year on energy bills for approximately four million households
The government had previously said Good Energy, Utilita and ScottishPower had the fewest voucher redemptions among suppliers
Charity says prepayment meter customers will see energy bills rise by more than £3 billion per year
The supplier has accepted the failings in its IT systems and compliance processes over five years resulted in too many customers receiving inaccurate or incomplete information
The regulator said the opening of the probe does not imply any findings have been made about non-compliance by the supplier
However, some very low energy usage customers may see an increase on their bills
The default price cap will reduce from £1,254 to £1,179 from 1st October until March 2020
