Sheffield Forgemasters has become a member of the British Hydropower Association.

Forgemasters is the world’s leading supplier of heavy forged and cast steel products to the offshore sector and in recent years has moved further into the renewable energy market.

Last month the Sheffield company had a loan to build a manufacturing plant for nuclear power forgings cancelled by the government.

Forgemasters sales director Volker Schaffer said: “We regard renewable energy to be among the top concerns within our business agendas and we are continually looking at different ways to service this market.

“Becoming a member of the BHA allows us further connections into the international hydropower market, and offers us the opportunity to raise important issues with key policy makers.

The British Hydropower Association is the leading trade association representing the interests of the UK hydropower industry.
