A surge in LED traffic lights in Europe has helped UK firm Dialight increase its operating profits almost nine-fold from £0.6m in 2009 to £5.3m this year.

Group revenues for the six months ended June 30 were £46.2m, up from £34.6m in 2009, while profit before tax was £5.2m (£0.5m in 2009).

Sales of LED traffic lights grew by over 15% on the same period last year with strong growth in Europe. Dialight expects this trend to continue as more European countries adopt LED lights.

In May, Dialight acquired BTI Light Systems, a supplier of marine lighting to the offshore wind market. This deal resulted in Dialight making its debut in European turbine market for both offshore and onshore operations.
