Low carbon vehicle technologies in the UK move into the fast lane today at LCV2010.

The event opened yesterday at Millbrook in Bedfordshire as the UK bids to lead the way in environmentally-friendly transport development.

Suzanne Gray, project manager for the Mini E, said; “We’re here to showcase the fact that we are continuing to run trials of electric vehicles in the UK, which is a key part of our ongoing research and development into this exciting area.

“While LCV2010 is a great opportunity for people to drive the cars and enjoy the superb experience of getting behind the wheel of a high performance electric car, the event also enables us to meet with other stakeholders to discuss wider issues such as developments in the areas of fuel, infrastructure, government policy and relevant legislation.”

Phil Barker, chief engineer of hybrid and electric vehicles at Lotus Engineering, said: “LCV provides Lotus Engineering with a great platform to showcase our advanced green technologies to a global audience. It has given us the opportunity to display some of our world-leading competencies.”

So far, the technical seminars at LCV2010 have been hugely popular, with contributions from Royal Mail, Coca Cola and Transport for London, all of whom have carried out trials of low carbon fleets in recent months.

ELN is at the show and editor Sumit Bose will be test driving an electric mini. Watch out for his TV report on Energy Live News.
