A husband and wife team running a wind power company have installed the first 50kW turbine in Cornwall.

Aeolus Power, run by Christine and Peter Griffiths, erected the turbine on a farm near Hayle.

The turbine is manufactured by Canadian company Endurance Wind Power, which picked Aeolus as one of only four UK distributors.

On its first day of operation the turbine produced 740kWh, sufficient power to keep a single 100 watt light bulb working for 44 weeks or to boil just under 5000 kettles.

The Griffiths started Aeolus in 2004 as a result of lack of support and information available to them when they installed a wind turbine at their home.

In March Mrs Griffiths was awarded the Gloucestershire Women in Business Rising Star Award for her achievements within the wind energy environment.
