A new app launched on the iPhone allows companies to calculate energy savings. By using ABB’s energy calculator it suggests installing variable speed drives to control motors. The free app enables businesses to make quick comparisons between motors controlled by variable speed drives and motors running without any speed control device.

Once the correct settings are applied the app estimates the CO2 output and and the savings that can be made. “By installing a variable speed drive it is possible to reduce your energy spend by up to 70 per cent on a single application,” Steve Ruddell ABB’s spokesperson claimed.

ABB develops power and automation technologies and operates in around 100 countries employing some 117, 000 people.
