Scotland’s renewable ambitions were boosted this week when Energy Secretary Chris Huhne committed £2m to the first phase of a major revamp of Scrabster harbour in Caithness.

The overhaul of a tanker pier at the port is seen as a key part of the north of Scotland’s bid to win spin-off work from energy-related developments.

Mr Huhne said: “The development will be a boost for Caithness and for the future of the local energy sector. The Pentland Firth holds the key to harnessing the power of our ocean and the £2m towards the redevelopment of Scrabster harbour is a critical factor to help get infrastructure in place to move the renewable industry forward.”
