Engineering company Pipeline Nitrogen Services UK (PNS) has opened its new operations base in Great Yarmouth as part of £15million investment aimed at extending their oil and gas life span in the North Sea.

Nearly half the investment is in state of the art nitrogen pumping units and coil tubing rigs, key parts of machinery used in oil or gas wells in the North Sea.

Local MP for Great Yarmouth Brandon Lewis said the government recognised the potential in the East of England’s energy industry: ‘Great Yarmouth has such a multiplicity of energy on its doorstep that it can offer something which almost nowhere else can. It is a once in a lifetime chance that we must grasp and then deliver.”

The new base is expected to create around 60 jobs by the middle of 2011, and fits in with the company’s global plans to expand.
