Smart metering firm Bglobal has been named Company of the Year at the Rosenblatt New Energy Awards 2011, which recognises excellence in the renewable and clean-tech industries.

The Lancashire-based company, which provides smart metering for energy suppliers and firms across the UK, has posted substantial increases in turnover and profits in the past financial year and to date has installed over 130,000 smart meters.

Also at the awards at London’s Natural History Museum, Martin McAdam, head of Aquamarine Power, was named Entrepreneur of the Year for his work in building the Edinburgh company from five to 50 people and securing £36m financing since joining the company in August 2008.

Home energy saver AlertMe’s latest £15m fundraising was judged Deal of the Year and the prize for Advisory Firm of the Year went to Easy MCS of Chester.

Platina Partners, which raised £175m for its European Renewable Energy Fund, won the Investor of the Year Award, while Build it Green’s raw material-saving insulated panels earned it the title of Developer of the Year.

John Lewis Partnership was named Retailer of the Year for beating its own energy efficiency target of 20%, and Novacem, a sustainably-produced cement innovator originating from University College London, carried off the trophy for University Spin-Out of the Year.

The awards are sponsored by solicitors Rosenblatt and organised by Business XL magazine.
