E.ON has installed and tested the first of 94 turbines at Settlers Trail wind farm in Illinois.

When completed Settlers Trail will take E.ON’s total installed wind capacity in North America over 2,000 megawatts (MW).

The Düsseldorf-based energy company is planning to expand its renewable power capacity by investing €2.6 billion (£2.3bn) in wind and solar between 2011-2013.

The Settlers Trail wind farm will have a 150MW capacity, enough to power more than 45,000 households.
