The second ‘Green Restaurant Awards’ have been designed to celebrate Birmingham restaurants’ green credentials and commitment to sustainability.

Running on the 6th June, the awards aim to highlight how green Birmingham is as a city.

Entrants will be judged in four categories: Waste Management; Energy Reduction; Staff and Community and Purchasing.

The restaurant that has excelled the most and shown the most commitment to greening their restaurant across all four categories will receive the Green Restaurant of the Year Award 2011.

Last year’s winner of the Green Restaurant of the Year was Moor Hall Hotel. They proved their worth by trialling a food dryer; converting waste kitchen oil into bio-diesel in their own plant and using this to power two company cars; saving energy and monitoring gas, electricity and water consumption and publishing monthly consumption reports.
