Blackouts in Venezuala have forced government officials to threaten excessive energy users with increased prices, according to reports.

Th move came after power failures at the end of last week, when outages affected parts of western Venezuela. The country has experience several blackouts over the last year.

Ali Rodriguez, Venezuala’s Energy Minister told a news conference: “It’s imperative that all Venezuelans contribute to and join in the campaign to save electricity.”

While energy savers could be rewarded, consumers must cut their monthly consumption by 10% compared with 2009 or face extra charges, reported the BBC.
