The general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, Brendan Barber, has praised Sheffield Forgemasters on a recent trip to the steel engineering company.

Mr Barber said: “Sheffield Forgemasters is a hugely important manufacturer working at the leading edge of its industry. The management is constantly seeking new opportunities to take the business forward. What is really important to see is the value that this business places on cementing good relationships with trade unions and I have been pleased to meet both management and trade union colleagues during my tour.”

Mr Barber met management and shop stewards to discuss strategies for employment.

The Forgemasters specialise in a broad range of heavy forged and cast steel products as well as supplying ingot and bar. They produce some of the largest bespoke engineered products in the world with capacity for castings of up to 350 tonnes and forgings of up to 275 tonnes.
