Dixons has cut its electricity use by a third in a year. Latest figures showed the retail group which includes the brands Currys and PC World, has netted £1.9 million in savings since May 2010.

Dixons Retail plc which is Europe’s largest electrical retailer and services company, has reduced energy consumption with the help of independent energy services company, energyexcel. The savings were made by talking to staff, running energy surveys and analysing energy data. Then specific solutions for individual stores were identified.

The savings were made by changing things like lighting, heating, ventilation and store displays as well as regular energy monitoring. The savings programme will be extended to a further 100 stores this year. The UK retail sector is responsible for 2% of the UK’s annual CO2 emissions.
