Fukushima plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company announced lethal levels of radiation had been detected at the crippled nuclear plant.

Radiation higher than 10 sieverts per hour was found at the bottom of a ventilation stack standing between two reactors. The level is high enough to cause incapacitation or death after just several seconds of contact.

Reports can not confirm the exact level of radiation as the device used to measure has a maximum reading of 10 sieverts.

According to Reuters, TEPCO spokesman Junichi Matsumoto said: “The high dose was discovered in an area that doesn’t hamper recovery efforts at the plant.”
