Sheffield Forgemasters’ specialist offshore design and project management division, Vulcan SFM, has secured a £1.3m deal with a fast growing offshore engineering supplier. The contract, which will see the company deliver six drill riser joints to Norwich-based Aquaterra Energy Ltd, is one of the first of its kind for Vulcan.

The components, each measuring between 5.6m to 12.1m, will be used to transfer minerals from the seabed to the surface in oil fields across the North Sea.

Neil Sawyer of Forgemasters said: “This order came about because we gave the customer high level technical support, based on over 30 years experience manufacturing riser joints.”

The global offshore oil and gas industry is thriving at the moment, due to a strong crude oil price which provides for investment in field expansion and new field developments. Vulcan has also secured contracts in secured in Brazil, the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea.
