One of the largest solar power stations in the country has officially opened in Dorest. Slepe Farm, near Poole can generate more than 500kWh per year enough to power 200 households.

The site is unusual as it was built using local suppliers and has 1,780 PV panels managed by energy solutions company Anesco.

It’s CEO Adrian Pike said: “Unlike other solar power stations, Slepe Farm has been commissioned, designed, supplied and built entirely by UK teams from across the south of England. It really shows how the southern counties are driving ahead as leaders in the green energy sector, something also having a knock-on effect for local communities, through the creation of jobs.”

Across the UK farms often struggling to make livestock and crops pay are turning to renewable power generation. Anesco says the sector is booming and plans to recruit 150 staff this year.
