International energy giant Siemens will leave the field of nuclear power to focus on renewable technologies. Their Chief Executive said that the German government’s decision to perform a U-turn on their energy policy was the reason.

Peter Löscher, chief executive of Siemens, is reported to have told German paper Der Spiegel the company would have no further involvement in building nuclear plants: “The chapter for us is closed.”

According to reports from Reuters, a long-standing deal for nuclear parts between Siemens and Russian firm Rosatom will also end.
