China has tested its first biofuel-powered flight. The aeroplane successfully completed a demonstration at Beijing using sustainable aviation fuel today.

The B747-400 passenger plane took off after Air China collaborated with PetroChina, Boeing and Honeywell UOP.

The Asian superpower is the world’s largest emitter of CO2 emissions, according to the International Energy Agency’s 2009 figures, but lately has been ramping up investment in renewable projects and energy efficiency.
