Irish-founded oil explorer Tullow Oil is targeting new projects in Mauritania. Tullow has agreed a new contract with the west African country’s government to develop and commercialise its existing discoveries and pursue new ones in a newly outlined contract area covering more than 10,000 square kilometres.

Aidan Heavey, chief executive of Tullow Oil said: “As Operator of the Banda, Tiof and Tevet discoveries, we will now work closely with the Government of Mauritania to commercialise these important hydrocarbon resources. We have also identified significant new exploration potential in this acreage.”

Mauritania is one of the continent’s newest oil producers, with a coast onto the Atlantic Ocean.
