International energy company BNK Petroleum Inc has added a further 86,000 acres of land to its gas portfolio in Spain, through its subsidiary Trofagas Hidrocarburos.

Trofagas Hidrocarburos, was awarded the Sedano oil and gas concession which brings the company’s total acreage in Europe to about 3.9 million net acres, in five separate basins. The company will target mostly shale gas and also some oil deposits.

According to seismic tests the shale ranges from 100 to over 200 meters in thickness at depths of about 2,500 to 4,500 meters.Wolf Regener, BNK’s President and CEO said: Our plan is to develop Spanish shale gas in an environmentally safe manner and create additional regional employment opportunities.”
