German solar company Albasolar GmbH has built the highest solar array in Europe. At 1900m above sea level, the Tauern project is also the largest solar installation in Austria after nearly €5M investment.
The facility will generate 2 MW of clean energy per year; equivalent to the power demand of 700 families. It is located in the Niedere Tauern massif in the state of Steirermark, close to a wind plant.
The REC 240PE modules used on the array will have to show some grit in facing the treacherous climate of the region- with strong winds and heavy snowfall.
