RES is one of the world’s leading renewable energy developers. As part of the exponential growth in offshore renewable energy, RES Offshore is expanding its business in the development, engineering, project management, construction and operation and maintenance of offshore renewable energy projects resulting in the need for additional procurement support.

The Role
The Offshore Engineering Team leads the design of Offshore Renewable Energy projects from initial conception through development, procurement, construction and into Operations and Maintenance. Delivering successful projects from initiation to realisation requires a multidisciplinary development team in which engineering plays a significant role.

Due to increasing workload we are looking to expand the engineering capabilities of the offshore department and to introduce a new Project Electrical Engineer role. You will be a part of a project team and responsible for ensuring that electrical aspects are being taken care of.

This may entail:
Identifying electrical issues for consideration in design and construction of a project
Defining scopes of work for electrical design and analysis activities
Evaluating tenders for electrical work packages
Managing electrical work packages being performed by internal or external parties
Checking contractors’ designs meet project requirements
Performing electrical calculations
Assessment of electrical equipment during design, procurement & construction phases
Assessment of electrical issues arising from operating wind farms

The electrical systems to be considered will include:
Power transmission systems in the range 10 – 1000MW
MV & HV substations up to 400kV
Generators, control systems and converters in the range 1 – 10MW
Auxiliary supplies at LV & MV for small equipment, instrumentation and communication systems

The Person
This role would suit a degree qualified electrical engineer with design, construction, commissioning or operation experience. Previous experience of the offshore sector and/or knowledge of the wind industry is not vital but would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate that they have the following capabilities:
The ability to proactively identify electrical issues for study, design or consideration within the project development and design process.
An understanding of the design process for electrical generation & transmission systems
Technical understanding of the main phenomena in electrical design such as load flow, short circuit, harmonics etc
Familiarity with HV electrical plant and systems
Technical understanding of cable rating & specification
Experience of designing, installing, commissioning or operating electrical plant
An appreciation of contractual interfaces in electrical systems
Experience of preparing and/or interpreting contract documents (eg. specifications, interface drawings)
Fluency in interpreting electrical diagrams and drawings
An understanding of the importance of the control of information and an ability to ensure that quality management objectives are achieved.
Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation and the ability to speak confidently with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders.

Salary:
£40,000 to £50,000 per annum
