Electricity demand could rise by 80% by 2040, according to a recent report. Natural gas will account for almost a third of this demand, predicts energy provider ExxonMobil.

The firm’s 2012 Outlook for Energy also predicts a rise of about 30% in energy demand, with four out of every 10 units of energy produced in the world going towards electricity production.

The use of hybrid cars could leap to half of the total personal transportation compared to about 1% at present.
