China will aim to base their nuclear future around new nuclear, with the country aiming for an increase of up to 300GW of power through nuclear coming online within the next 10-20 years according to a senior official, reported China Daily.

Shi Lishan, deputy director of the National Energy Administration’s new-energy and renewable energy department is reported to have said that the country wants to increase generation capacity by 2000GW during that period, with as much as 300GW coming from nuclear power.

The paper estimated the cost of such an increase would be approximately £81 billion.
