Multinational technology firm IBM has predicted that humans will be able to harness the energy they create within the next five years. ‘People power’ is one of the ‘IBM 5 in 5’, a list in which the company predicts innovations that may come about in the next five years.

The company says advances in renewable energy technology will allow individuals to collect kinetic energy, which normally goes to waste and use it to help power our homes, offices and cities. This could be done through attaching a device while walking, jogging or cycling or even from collecting the heat from an electrical device such as a computer.

The other four innovations were a DNA password;mind-reading;technology to cross economic divides; and smarter junk mail.
