The Japanese Government has announced it will take between 30 and 40 years to clean-up and decommission the destroyed Fukushima nuclear plant.

The plant’s cooling systems were cut off by a record earthquake and tsunami on March 11. About 80,000 people were evacuated from within a 12 mile radius of the plant soon after. The government said last week the reactors were in a state of “cold shutdown.”

Some sources have estimated decommissioning may cost around 1.15 trillion yen (£9.53 billion) to decommission the plant, though some experts put it at 4 trillion yen or even more.
