US billionaire tycoon Donald Trump has reportedly sent the Scottish First Minister a letter accusing him of wanting to destroy Scotland’s coastline with wind turbines. Mr Trump has been enraged over a potential development of a wind farm off the coast of Aberdeenshire where he’s building a golf course.

His letter to Alex Salmond claims the Scottish Government’s wind policy will destroy the landscape of Scotland and will empty the pockets of its people. There are also reports he has started a fund for an international campaign against wind turbines.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “Scottish waters are estimated to have as much as a quarter of Europe’s potential offshore wind energy. A recent study suggests that harnessing just a third of the practical resource off our coast by 2050 would enable us to generate enough electricity to power Scotland seven times over. An independent Scotland will be able to take full responsibility for this renewables revolution, along with the investment and thousands of jobs it brings.”
