Iran has stopped exporting crude oil to British and French companies. Acting in response to EU sanctions last month over Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme the Iran oil ministry said it would sell its oil to “new customers.”

The European Union will stop importing crude from Iran as of July 1. Tensions rose this weekend with a top US military figure warning Israel not to take a dangerous pre-emptive strike. A DECC spokesperson said the UK would feel little effect from Iran’s actions.

Tehran wasshowing off its nuclear breakthrough last week but insists the uranium enrichment is purely for peaceful energy purposes.
