Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond launched an international degree for the energy sector today.

The Masters in Business Administration degree will be run jointly by Scottish Power, its parent company Iberdrola, the University of Strathclyde and Madrid’s Comillas Pontifical University ICAI. Employees of ScottishPower and Iberdola will have the opportunity to study the technical and commercial aspects of worldwide energy markets.

Professor Susan Hart, Dean of Strathclyde Business School said: “This is a truly international partnership that will involve staff from Spain, Mexico, Brazil and USA, providing them with a global perspective of successful strategies for the energy industry.”

Chairman of Iberdrola and Scottish Power Ignacio Galan said that “development opportunities” are important for employees to succeed in any countries they operate in. He added: “Energy is a global business and as engineers we must be ready to meet the global challenges that our industry faces.”

Mr Salmond believes this international partnership will give Scotland “an enormous competitive advantage” as the renewable energy industry “offers the opportunity to reindustrialise” the country.
