Despite having some of the lowest bills in Europe, the majority of UK consumers are still not happy with their treatment by the energy companies.

Recent research from a report by market research agency YouGov SixthSense has found that 84% of UK consumers felt energy suppliers made maximum profit at the expense of customers. More than half of consumers also agreed with the statement ‘energy suppliers treat people with contempt’.

Commenting on the findings Research Director of YouGov SixthSense James McCoy said: “The strength and negativity of feeling regarding the energy companies’ profits is clearly demonstrated. The findings suggest that many people are more outraged by the profits being made than by their actual energy bill.”

Reacting to the February 2012 price cuts, 56% of those questioned agreed that “it was about time” because they thought the energy firms made too much money.
