Energy supplier npower has welcomed public scrutiny of the new Energy Bill set to be announced later this afternoon.

This comes amidst fears for consumers and businesses as bills are expected to rise following the change in the electricity market.

The CEO of npower, Volker Beckers, believes the energy sector plays a huge role in the economy and energy policy must be given “adequate priority and resource across Government.”

He added: “We must find the balance between continuing uncertainty and taking the time to get the right mechanisms implemented in the right way and hopefully the chance for all stakeholders to scrutinise the Bill will help the Government in achieving this aim.”

The supplier believes investing in low carbon generation is crucial for the future of the country’s energy sector. Despite this, npower pulled out of their joint nuclear venture called Horizon with E.ON last month.
