Firms in energy, transport and manufacturing are concerned the Government is “moving the goalposts” on low carbon policy, according to a new report from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).

The left-leaning thinktank says British industries which produce the largest chunk of emissions don’t think they’re getting the “stable” and “consistent” policy signals needed.

Industry would also like a more tailor-made approach when it comes to policy, as the IPPR report suggests “more nuanced policy for energy-intensive firms” would go down well. It states “in some cases energy-intensive firms face barriers and challenges that are specific to their individual sectors.”

The findings were drawn from a series of private roundtable discussions and interviews with senior executives.
