A manufacturing firm in the Midlands has been awarded £5million worth of Government funding to build solar panels across the UK. This is in an effort to drive the nation’s economy and create new jobs in the area.

Sunsolar was given the grant as part of the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, which is expected to create more than 500 jobs within the next five years.

The company hopes the investment will enable it to be the only solar panel manufacturer in the UK with a “self-sufficient” factory as the panels are currently imported from Europe and China.

The Regional Growth Fund is worth £2.4billion and allows businesses across England to apply for grants to fund projects that create economic growth and sustainable employment.
