Kent council has vowed to bring new jobs after a firm cancelled its plans to build a turbine factory at Sheerness. The council had a meeting with investment experts yesterday to discuss the future of the Kent site.

This follows Danish wind manufacturer Vestas’ decision to scrap its plans to build wind turbines at the Port of Sheerness.

Mark Dance, Kent County’s Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said: “We are putting our full force behind wind turbine manufacturing at the Port of Sheerness. It is the premier site for the industry and so much is in place for the right company to come in and invest.”

The site’s owners said they were extremely disappointed with Vestas’ decision.
