Nine in ten US businesses now have energy management goals in place according to a new American study.

Firms in the States coping with recession have “increasingly” been looking to energy management to improve their bottom line, found US analysts from Deloitte.

The poll says 90% of companies polled have specific electricity and energy management goals in place, while out of these, nine in ten are targeting electricity consumption and cost reductions.

Three-quarters of these have targets to cut both natural resource consumption (60% around water) and waste generation.

Firms are also trying to improve energy efficiency of buildings where they operate (62%), slashing natural gas use (58%), carbon footprint (56%) and use of transport fuel (51%).

The reSources 2012 Study suggests that this trend will not be changing any time soon.
