A Danish wind turbine manufacturer has received a 68MW wind contract for the UK.

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) placed the order for 35 wind turbines for the Keadby Wind Farm project in Lincolnshire, which upon completion is expected to be the largest onshore wind farm in England. It is also expected to generate enough electricity to power up to 47,000 homes.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, President at Vestas Northern Europe said: “Vestas is focused on developing new projects in the UK and this wind farm is a great example of our continued commitment to both SSE and wind in the UK. The V90-2.0 MW (turbines) builds on proven technology to ensure component reliability and durability, reducing the risk of downtime and helping ensure stability of the customers’ investment.”

The contract includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines and a give-year service agreement. Installation is expected to start next year and completed in 2014.

Earlier this year Vestas scrapped its plans to build a wind turbine factory at the Port of Sheerness on the Kent coast.
