The energy sector is the most enjoyable to work in according to a new poll of graduates working in Britain.

Confidential career review site TheJobCrowd.com asked 3000 graduates in their first three years of employment to score their company on a range of criteria.

The industry topped the list for overall role enjoyment and also scored particularly highly for colleague interaction, ethical and environmental awareness, responsibility and career progression.

National Grid topped the list for the industry coming third in the top 100 graduate employers. Coming a close second was nucleargraduates while French energy supplier EDF Energy was third. BP, Wood Group and Centrica were also included in the list of the top 100 graduate employers.

With the sector’s potential skills shortage on the horizon, the results could be a well-needed image change and attract more university leavers to consider a career.

Keren Mitchell, co-founder of TheJobCrowd.com said the results show that graduate employees in the energy industry are amongst the happiest in Britain: “The industry topped the bill when it came to role enjoyment which shows that graduates really do get the most out of the day to day tasks. They weren’t expected to do excessive hours and were generally found to enjoy the time they spent in the office.”

The energy industry, which scored third overall behind transport and IT, was found to have the shortest working day, with graduates not expected to put in excessive hours during the early years of their career. Overall, technology firm Microsoft claimed top spot.
