Green electricity supplier Good Energy is funding a place for a PhD in renewable energy at Birkbeck, University of London.

The student who wins the place will look into what would happen if the UK doesn’t invest in renewable energy technology “given rising global energy demand over the next 40 years”, according to the university’s website.

Good Energy’s founder and chief executive Juliet Davenport studied at Birkbeck for her Masters degree in Economics between 1992 and 1994.

She said: “In looking at those challenges in a new way, we hope that we will all be better placed to provide the solutions needed to meet them.”

Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck said: “This provides a brilliant opportunity for an exceptional student to investigate this important area at a time when postgraduate funding is in very short supply.”
