Energy company npower wants businesses to share their thoughts on government changes to the electricity market (EMR) with a new survey it is launching today.

Its new ‘EMR Pulse’ is a quick and simple online survey and once the results are in, the supplier will feed comments back to the Government.

It says this will give businesses the opportunity to participate in the government’s latest consultation on proposals to exempt the most electricity intensive industries from part of the costs of Contracts for Difference (CfD). This is a mechanism which will set a fixed price for generators which produce low carbon energy sources.

The new survey is part of npower’s wider ‘EMR Explained’ campaign to help educate businesses on what the EMR is.

Wayne Mitchell, Industrial & Commercial Sales & Marketing Director said: “It’s important that businesses of all sizes get involved now to have their say in the current consultation on CfD exemption for electricity intensive industries, as the knock-on impact on energy prices will affect all energy users.”

Business and Energy Minister Michael Fallon said: “We would encourage as many businesses as possible to get involved. As we reform the market to attract new investment into the nation’s energy infrastructure, it is vital that we do not undermine the competitiveness of UK industry.”
