British Gas is cancelling early cancellation fees for its domestic customers who want to switch to another of the supplier’s tariffs.

The firm is ditching the charge for anyone who wants to change to another of its fixed or variable tariffs. It recently set up a ‘Tariff Check’, a free six-monthly MOT telling customers if they could save money by moving to another British Gas tariff.

Ian Peters, Managing Director of Residential Energy at British Gas said: “If customers want to move to a different British Gas deal because their needs have changed, we want to make it quick and easy for them to do so.”

However customers planning to switch to another supplier won’t be celebrating as cancellation fees will still apply on fixed tariffs.

Business customers can’t leave long-term energy contracts, so cancellation fees don’t apply for them anyway.
