ScottishPower has pledged not to disconnect any customers over the colder months as part of a ‘Winter Commitments’ list.

Neil Clitheroe, ScottishPower’s CEO for Retail and Generation announced the supplier would also give a three month break in debt repayments to its most vulnerable customers.

Other commitments included putting no upper limit on the number of customers eligible for the £135 Warm Home Discount in the ‘Broader Group’ category (such as a customer who receives Jobseeker’s Allowance), sending all quarterly customers an estimate of how much they could save by making changes to their account and giving free insulation and heating measures to certain eligible customers.

Speaking at the National Energy Action Conference yesterday, Mr Clitheroe said: “We understand that winter can be a particularly difficult time for many people, and it is important that we have measures in place to support our customers who need help the most. We hope that once again our package of Winter Commitments will offer help thousands of people.”

A recent survey found 38% of people were worried about heating bills this winter.
