The Big Six energy supplier E.ON has launched a new ‘energy toolkit’ which shows small businesses how energy is being used so they can uncover and eliminate waste.

The free wireless energy monitor E.ON is handing out to its business customers works in near real time – updating every 10 seconds so they can see the effect of turning appliances on and off. It also allows users to measure energy use by cost, kilowatt-hours and CO2 emissions and compare it by day, week or month.

The information can then be used either online or over the phone to get advice on how to cut bills, with the tips tailored to customers’ industry and company size. The supplier estimates energy savings of up to 26% for small manufacturing companies using the toolkit and 38% for office-based firms.

Anthony Ainsworth, Sales and Marketing Director at E.ON said: “Small business owners are tied up doing lots of things – they are often the boss, sales agent, secretary, procurement department and accountant all in one. It’s safe to say that no business owner wants to waste money, yet that’s what using unnecessary amounts of energy does.”

E.ON launched a similar energy toolkit for household customers several weeks ago.
